About FloodCost

An independent site that shows what NFIP flood insurance really costs, from FEMA's public data.

FloodCost answers one question with official data: what does flood insurance really cost here?

Most flood insurance in the United States is sold through FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA publishes every policy and claim, without personal details, but as raw data with tens of millions of rows. We turn it into simple pages: the median cost by state, county, ZIP code and flood zone, how it changed in a year, and how often the area has flooded.

Rules we follow

  • Every number comes from FEMA's OpenFEMA data, with the dataset version and the date we retrieved it on the page, and a link to the raw records.
  • No estimates of our own, no "calculators" that pretend to quote a price.
  • No groups smaller than 10 policies, no single policy, no personal data.
  • No advice: this is information about past prices, not a recommendation to buy or not buy insurance.

Who we are

FloodCost is an independent project run by Massimiliano Cori. It is not affiliated with FEMA, the NFIP, any insurer or insurance agency. The site may show advertising and, in the future, a clearly marked link to compare quotes; they never change the numbers.
